Choice of summits :
-
The initial list of summits was based on the work of Mark Trengove,
Jonathan
de Ferranti and Aaron
Maizlish as published on their
http://www.peaklist.org/
website.
Our thanks are due to them for giving their permission to use the data.
In a
manner similar to the Marilyn programme of Great Britain, it considers the
relative height of summits compared to their surroundings and defines
a minimum of 150m climb from the surrounding cols in order to qualify.
-
Summits are defined within regions of SOTA
France. Unlike some other French awards, départements are not significant
within SOTA. A summit situated on the boundary of two or more SOTA regions
will be allocated to one of the regions by the Association Manager.

Activation of a summit:
-
For an activation to be valid, the following rules apply:
-
- Operation
from vehicles is not permitted and the method of final access to the Summit
must be “person powered”, e.g. hiking, mountain biking.
-
-You must
operate from a portable power source (e.g. batteries, solar cells). Fossil
fuelbased generators are not allowed.
-
-At least four
QSOs must be made for you to claim your activator points.
-
Many
SOTA operations use these frequencies:
-
3561, 7032,
10116 and
14060 for CW
-
3720 or 3760
for SSB
-
144300 (SSB)
and 145500 (FM)
on VHF, but these are not obligatory.
